CS Graduate Students’ Virtual Orientation
“As much as possible, we always improve our facilities so that you (students) can focus on the Science aspect already because our main goal in the College of Science is to produce as many experts as we can. I am looking forward to shaking everyone’s hand once you graduate!” -Dean Giovanni Tapang, Ph.D.
CS Dean Giovanni Tapang, Ph.D. officially welcomed the new graduate students during the virtual orientation held last February 1, 2021. The orientation was presented by OADMAPA Assoc. Dean Eizadora T. Yu, Ph.D. and OADSAPA Assoc. Dean Lillian Jennifer V. Rodriguez, Ph.D.
To start things off, Assoc. Dean Yu gave a virtual tour of the facilities of the College of Science since some of the students were not able to personally see them due to the pandemic. Assoc. Dean Yu also discussed the General CS Graduate Program Guidelines, and Process Workflow during the pandemic. Assoc. Dean Rodriguez discussed non-academic support programs in CS such as guidance counseling, mental health support, and sexual harassment concerns.
The CS libraries also provided a short presentation on the preparations they have done to make resources available for the students to access remotely. They introduced the CS Library e-hubs where students can virtually access research studies, books, and other materials needed for their studies.
Anabel Abulencia, Jelaine Gan, and Dr. Alex de los Reyes, alumni of CS graduate programs, were also present in the orientation and shared tips and pieces of advice to the students on how to survive graduate programs whilst enjoying the process. The participating graduate students also asked questions and concerns during the open forum.
We welcome the new graduate students of the College of Science! May you enjoy your stay in the College and we look forward to seeing you become future scientists and field experts!
